Milk to 2700gns & Incalf Heifer to 2000gns at SAC Spring Fever

Amidst further milk price cuts, the trade remained strong throughout our Spring Fever Collective Sale especially for the best types.
Top of the day went to FH Chave & Son for their much admired Peacehay Radio Tiny 132nd at £2782.50, a calved heifer that did not reflect her name being a super strong heifer from the long established Tiny family. Close behind at £2730 was Dinnaton Silver Haniko Dreamer from the continued dispersal of the Dinnaton Herd on behalf of DC Dennis & Son Ltd. Other calved heifers selling in excess of 2000gns Peacehay x 2, Dinnaton x 4, Rea & Sons (Clenchers) x 2 and MA & SL Reed (Culverhayes). Fresh calved cows topped at £2206 for the second lactation, Clenchers Michalak Jovial (GP82, SP) from Rea & Sons.
An excellent trade especially for the summer calving heifers followed, with over 100 incalf heifers to choose from purchasers made the most of the opportunity which saw heifers topping at £2100 for the for May calving, Tarischka Allegro Dewdrop, making it the third consecutive month that the Hawkins Farm Partnership have topped this section. At £1942.50 x 2, was Pensdown Maria 114th from JAW Bendall & Sons and a heifer sired by Bomaz Saige from Winfrith Field Farm LLP. Other incalf heifers from TR Horsington & Sons to £1837 (Godney), DJ & MV Curtis to £1732.50, Bill Barnett & Partners (Farmers) £1575 (Astrop).
Bulling heifers from Lilylane Farms Ltd sold to £903 x 2 for Lilylane Lighthouse Roma 68th and Lilylane Lighthouse Flash 45th. A good heifer calf trade topped at £462 x 4 from the dispersal of the Culverhayes Herd from MA & SL Reed.
The sale include the dispersals for Legg family which produced non recorded once a day milked cows. Cows to £1380 and recently served heifers at £966 x 2 and EB Drew £1664 for a December 2nd calver.
The convenient location of Sedgemoor Auction Centre attracted successful purchasers from Wales to Cornwall with buyers both in the ring and online creating the following averages:
