Moorshard Cream of the Herd Sale
July 2025
On 16th July 2025 the “Moorshard” Open Day celebrated the breeding accomplishments of Randolph, Marlene and Brian Miller, not only the accolade of being the 2024 Holstein Uk Premier Breeder winners but the family were also recognised with the rarely presented Holstein Breeder Excellence Award.
As part of the day’s celebration was the Cream of the Herd Sale which topped at 4600gns for the much admired 5 month old Moorshard Red Spark Gloria out of an impressive line of 21 generations of Excellent and Very Good dams with 20 of them being in the top tier! She stayed local selling to Tim Quick for his Mendip herd.
At 4400gns was another red heifer with an impressive pedigree with her dam being a VG88-3yr and turning heads when the crowd viewed the herd. She sold to Shaneal Farms and will be shortly out around the show circuit. Embryos from her dam sold to 600gns. Also turning heads at the Open Day was Moorshard Haniko Jodie who was maximum scored at Ex93, her daughter who was sold incalf to Hi-Praise at 4100gns to the Wallis family from Dartmouth.
Another calf that will no doubt be seen around the shows is Moorshard Letsgo Raven 3 who was keenly sought at 4100gns by Emily Davis for the Rivermead Herd.
Also exceeding 4000gns was Moorshard Hampshire Lustre who sold to the Carymoor herd.
Milking Cows and Heifers looked the best buy with the VG86 Davinci Shower selling for 3500 gns to the Davies’ Davlea herd and the VG86 Haniko Fran selling for 3400gns to Malcolm Hodges and family.
The sale was keenly supported by Southwest breeders including a number garnering fresh interest in breeding as well as West Wales, and the Midlands achieved the following averages:
| Calved Cows & Heifers | £3092 |
| Incalf Heifers | £4305 |
| Maiden Heifers | £2783 |
| Heifer Calves | £2430 |
| Embryos | £512 |
| Overall average | £2820 |
