Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunts March Collective Dairy Sale was a sale of both quality and quantity, drawing volume buyers from across the country. The trade lit up with the organic calves and milk from AH Warren Trust and continued throughout the catalogue. From fresh calved heifers to 7th lactation cows inc. those with faults averaging £2105 a life. No less than 21 lots sold for in excess of £3000, to a top of £3675 for a much admired Red & White fresh second calver, Clenchers Robin Cam Red 2nd from Rea & Son, her heifer calf followed her through the ring selling for £714. Other cows in the collective section sold to £3307.50 for Moorshard and £3255 for Clenchers, with calved heifers matching the cows at £3675 for Dorset Justin Teasel for Dimond Farming Ltd, whose four heifers forward averaged an impressive £3268.18.
The organics from AH Warren Trust sold to £3202.50 for a commercial 4th lactation cow and £3100 for a Swedish Red X, 2nd lactation cow, their heifer calves sold to £630 x3.
The day included three dispersals with the Beaverbrook dispersal offering well bred, renowned families that calved throughout the year. Their autumn calved Beaverbrook Darwin Faun GP80, sold for £3360, with the fresh 3rd lactation VG85 Lighthouse Paradise at £3307.50, another December calved Paradise, this time a 2nd lactation by Adorable sold for £3255 with members of the Lulu and Papoose families both at £3100.
The second dispersal was the conclusion of the milking herd sale for Merryfield Farmers Ltd. Their much admired fresh commercial homebred heifers by Parkhurst Samaritan ET sold to £3517.50, £3255 and £3150.
The final dispersal was on behalf of RT & CV Perrett Ltd. Their commercial all year around calving herd topped at £2835 for a July calved heifer that was served again, with August 2nd calvers £2782.50. The herd included a number of Blue Roans which were in demand selling to £2436 for a July calved heifer. Their incalf heifers sold to £2310 x3.
53 incalf heifers forward on the day sold to £2467.50 for the continued dispersal for Garrett Bros, a commercial heifer due June to the Angus, others to £2394 and £2362.50 x3. Merryfield Farmers Ltd incalf heifer due June £2436 and the organic incalf heifers from AH Warren Trust due April/May to Hereford sold to £2436 and £2415 x2 and £2394 x2.
The sale concluded with yearling and younger heifers for the Perry families dispersal selling to £1050 x7.
If there was ever a sale to demonstrate the power of the hammer, this was it with 60 purchasers across the county in person and online, making the most of the choice on offer and generating the following excellent averages:
