New site sees records reached at Walford Cross!
April 2026
With yet another Walford Cross Machinery Sale now done and dusted, the 71st annual sale was a mammoth one! Greenslade Taylor Hunt relocated this year approximately one mile up the road to a bigger site with better access – and thank goodness they did!
Entries came flooding in all day on the Tuesday and Wednesday beforehand, overspilling the designated areas for lots and into the car parking fields. Come Thursday morning the field had over 3,000 lots laid out ready to be sold.
It was a full-on day for all the team with the first auction starting at 9am and the last hammer going down just before 6pm. There were around 650 successful buyers and 400 sellers reaching some brilliant prices.
Highlights included: £38,000 for a New Holland TX63 Combine, £29,000 for a New Holland TX62 Combine, £29,500 for a New Holland Telehandler and £12,500 for a JCB Telehandler – from the vehicles section. A Diesel Umbilical engine pump went for £35,000, a McHale Fusion 3 Baler £28,000, a Richard Western SDS24 Dung Spreader, £16,000 and £12,500 for a Krone Swadro 1400 Rake, all of which were in the machinery section. An insulated shipping container made £1,450 as well as a Bateman roll over sheep crate making £1,000 from the VAT section. Finally, a couple high spots from the non-VAT section included £900 for a Kubota ride on mower and £900 for a Honda Montesa bike.
Auctioneer Tom Mellor said: “The Walford Cross machinery sale has firmly cemented itself in the agricultural community’s calendar once again, with this not just being a sale but a major event. Numerous positive comments have been provided in respect of the quality and quantity of items but also how accessible the site is and how well everything went on the sale day. A hugely positive day for all involved!
We want to put a big thank you out to all the GTH team members, buyers and sellers that make Walford Cross the highlight of our year and the biggest machinery sale in the Southwest, which wouldn’t happen without all of you! We look forward to doing it all again next year.”
