On Farm Dorset Sale to 4100 gns

Auctioneers GTH were excited to be back on farm in Dorset for the dispersal of the Autumn Calving Gomershay Herd for Spicer Partners. This much-admired herd produced the trade of the year so far with electric bidding in ring and on marteye for the freshly calved cows and heifers resulting in successful purchasers from across the south of England and Wales.
Top call of the day was 4100gns for the catalogue cover girl "Gomershay Pepper Violet Ex92" , she was a fourth calved cow that caught the eye and admiration of the crowd, bred from a family originating at Stowey she sold to Richard & Laurence Gay for their Walkabout Herd.
One of that families that kept appearing at the top end was the Urcia’s and the VG88 third calver Pagani achieved 3800gns with Gomershay Improbable Quincy another 3rd calver selling for 3500gns. The depth of families at Gomershay was shown by the number of different names that achieved top prices on the day with other third calvers at 3400gns for a Tara and 3100gns for a Cysnet, second lactation Flo's and Carly's at 3,300gns and Whitetime heifers at 3,000gns.
The calved heifers from this block calving herd do calve in young with a pair of VG-2yrs being "Gomershay Sandman Gretal" and "Gomershay Flashback Cysnet" topping the section at 3700gns & 3600gns respectively both being secured by SB Farms Ltd for their new herd.
15 of the cows sold broke the £3000 barrier with no less than 65 over £2500.
Autumn born heifer calves that followed their dams were in demand selling to 620gns for "Gomershay Cirrus Beatrice". Many of the calves offered had excellent PLIs’ to include "Gomershay Harped Urcia" at £526 who sold for 600gns.
A strong contingent of buyers from Wales together with local Dorset support and those from Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Wiltshire created the following excellent averages. It was interesting to note that a number of buyers from further afield left empty handed.
