Over 300 at Sedgemoor saw demand for everything!

Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report their June collective sale, consisting of mostly youngstock, created large interest and demand to top at £2940 for a freshly calved heifer with incalf heifers close behind at £2835.

A shorter entry of fresh milk topped at 2800gns (£2940) for Ampney Pursuit Molly 2 from M & S Powell. Others to 2650gns (£2782.50) x 3 for another Ampney heifer, Peachay Brady Fluff from David & Ian Chave and Beaconhill Ashton Paula from Olly Reed. Crossbred fresh calved cows from Barrowlands Farm Partnership sold to 2300gns (£2415) with their incalf consignment selling to 1800gns (£1890).

A good selection of incalf heifers saw a flurry of bidders with many leaving the market with fewer than they were hoping to buy. At 2700gns (£2835) was Otterwyn Capone Smuts from the Bowditch family’s continued dispersal, Dinnaton Dalliance Galaxy Total eclipse who was sold as part of the Biss family’s continued dispersal achieved 2650gn (£2782.50), a commercial heifer from Emmett Farming Ltd sired by Claynook Zolton achieved 2650gns (£2782.50) with all of the Holstein incalf heifers averaging £2225!.

With over 170 bulling, yearling & younger heifers the sale attracted buyers from across the south and Wales seeing bulling heifers top at 1350gns (£1417.50) for commercial heifers from Emmett Farming, yearlings to 1300gns from the Tungrove herd of the Daniels family and Jersey Cross 10 month old heifers to 780gns (£819) for the Greens from Shepton Mallet.

Heifer calves by Denovo Godzilla from the Hook herd achieved 580gns (£609) X 2.

36 buyers spanning the breadth of England and Wales achieved the following excellent averages:-
