Pedigree Grass Fed Holstein Friesians from Oxford Sell at Sedgemoor

March 2023

The Dispersal of the Astrop Herd of 403 Pedigree Holstein Friesians for Bill Barnett & Partner’s Oxford at Sedgemoor Auction Centre generated a great deal of interest for this grazing herd of medium sized, hardy cows which encouraged successful purchasers from across England and Wales.

Despite further milk price reductions reported this week a large number of cows sold for over £2000 to a top of £2520 for Astrop Rosehaugh Cassandra, a freshly calved  third calver giving 35.4kgs, followed by another third calver, autumn calved, Topton Blackcap 25th, giving  46.3kgs selling for £2362.50. 6th calvers sold to £1837.50 for Astrio Ransom Laura, giving 48kgs daily and back incalf to Seagull-Bay-MJ Applejax.
Two year old freshly calved heifers topped at £2152.50 for Astrop Bryster Bless 2nd, followed by Astrop Bryster Grietje at £2047.50, both daughters of the British Friesian Peartree Bryster.

The best trade of the day was experienced for the stronger, heavier yielding cows with particular interest in the autumn calvers.

The Vendors were well rewarded having removed their cows from Oxford to Sedgemoor Auction Centre that serves Wales and the West with easy access to the North.
