Scorching Trade at SAC Crossbred Dispersal

The first Dairy Dispersal of the year drew a great crowd to Sedgemoor Auction Centre for the crossbred dispersal for David Johnson and family of Warmbrook Chard. The scorching trade warmed up the freezing cold day with 75 of the 146 sold to exceed £2,000 to a top of £2,835 for the September calved 3rd Lactation Montbéliard x by Narpon giving 38.3kgs. At £2,677.50 was another Montbeliard x this time by Oggy that had calved to her first in June giving 34.3kgs and back incalf to the blue.
The British Friesian dry cow who had won the national animal competition for genetic order for the British Friesian breed with a PLI of £616 and was due to her third in February sold for £2,625.
Two Holstein July calvers being a 1st and 2nd calver both back in calf for this summer sold for £2,572.50 each. June calved Jersey heifers sold to £2,310 with 5th Lactation Jersey’s to £1,680. and 2nd lactation Fleckvieh to £2,362.50.
Older, heavy milking cows were a very strong trade with fresh 6th lactation cows selling for £2,047.50, 7th lactation cows to £2,362.50 and 3/4rd fresh cows to £1,942.50.
Incalf heifers due end of Jan / Feb to the Angus sold to £2,226 for a Progenesis Metallica, £2,121 x 2 for daughters of the Oggy Montbeliard bull and £2,100 for the Swedish Red x heifer.
A number of volume buyers on the day from Cornwall to Dorset and Shropshire combined with strong local support resulted in an average for the 146 head sold of £2,028 including incalf heifers and all faults.
