Scorching Trade for Jersey Crossbreds at SAC
April 2025
The decision of LKR Farms Ltd (Richard Smith) to disperse their Dorset Spring calving, once a day milked, out wintered, Jersey crossbred dairy herd at Sedgemoor Auction Centre was rewarded with an excellent trade and volume buyers from Wales, Somerset and Devon.
A day when many left empty-handed, saw competitive bidding both in the ring and online for the cows on offer. No less than 108 of those that went through the ring sold for over £2000 to a top of £2520 × 6 for three second lactation & three third lactation March calved cows. With fifth lactation cows topping at £2467.50 & fourth lactation cows £2415.
The Jersey x calved heifers that had calved in at two years of age sold to £2257.50, £2100 & £2047.50 × 7.
For a smaller type of cow they produced an unprecedented record-breaking average of £1996 excluding the three-quarter and J5 cows and £1813 across the board all in.
