Sedgemoor Monthly Dairy Sale bucks’ industry gloom with a top of 3400gns

The Annual February Collective Dairy Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre saw a large crowd for a comparably smaller monthly offering.  With 170 head catalogued the trade generated impressive top prices in each section with 3400gns for fresh milk, 2450gns for incalf heifers, 1600gns for bulling heifers and 780gns for heifer calves achieved.

 

The fresh milk section saw Tim Quicks cow ‘Mendip System Lizbeth’ sell to 2700gns (£2835). Heifers also topped at 2700gns (£2835) for ‘Dorset Chief Queen’ from the Dimond family Dorset. An impressive Organic consignment from AH Warren Trust topped the day at 3400gns (£3570) with 5 others over £3000 to average £2635.

 

A pedigree Hereford Bull sold for 2450gns (£2572.50) Incalf heifers saw a much brighter trade than the previous month topping at 2450gns (£2572.50) for PH Creed & Son’s commercial heifer from a dam that had given over 14,000kgs in her 8th Lactation. Others to 2350gns & 2300gns for the same vendor and 2200gns for Garrett Bros.

 

Bulling heifers sold exceptionally well to 1600gns (£1680) twice for PH Creed with Allerways heifers selling to 1580gns.

 

Organic calves started the day for AH Warren Trust reaching 780gns x 3 for September born weaned calves with fresh young calves sold as A lots achieved 620gns for Peacehay Blade Amanda.

 

32 different buyers were recorded from Cornwall to Carmarthen and the Midlands with most counties in between represented creating the following excellent averages:
