Unstopabull Dairy to 3500gns at Sedgemoor Auction Centre

Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt held their August Collective Dairy Sale of over 300 dairy cattle in front of a large crowd to top at 3500gns (£3675) for the much admired Wiltor Unstopabull Okalibra Red from David, Claire & Matt Jones, Monmouth. A daughter of a show cow that will be seen at this years UK Dairy Day, aswell as being a descendant of the European Show Winner Decrausaz Iron Okalibra she garnered much interest from all across the South of England and Wales with the successful bidder being Kev & Sian Rickard of Starlet Holsteins. Her three week old heifer calf at foot by popular red bull Jordy sold to 1200gns (£1260) to Devon Breeders, Winkleigh Holsteins.

The fresh milk again sold to a strong demand with averages exceeding £2200. The Dinnaton Dispersal from Derek & Jeremy Dennis, Ivybridge took the next two top prices both at 2450gns (£2572.5) for a Lambda and a Mogul from the Tara and Total Eclipse families respectively. Same vendor also achieved 2400gns and 2350gns twice for their calved heifers, with the Bennett family from Templecombe selling Lilylane Pepper Kitty for 2100gns. 19 of the calved heifers exceeded £2200 on the day.

Olly Reed (Cullompton) sold the second calver Beaconhill Alligator Linda to top the cow section at 2400gns with David & Ian Chave’s (Wellington) Peacehay Upright Amanda selling for 2250gns.
The trade exceeded expectation for the youngstock as vendors had worried about the lack of rain but all ages sold exceptionally well with the 88 Incalf heifers forward averaging an impressive £1630 to top at 2000gns for MB & LC Haskell, Dorchester selling a commercial heifer due in September. Others from the same vendor 1920gns & 1900gns. The very last incalf heifer from the Green family of Warminster Roundhillsfarm herd sold for 1860gns with first time vendors R & S Turner of Dorchester and PR & SJ Parry, Monmouth selling heifers to 1850gns and 1800gns respectively.

PR & SJ Richards consignment of incalf cows and bulling heifers were well rewarded for the long trip down from Ipswich topping at 1800gns twice for incalf cows and 1020gns for bulling heifers.

Sutton Hall from East Sussex consigned served heifers which sold to 1150gns and yearlings to 720gns. An excellent consignment of calves from JF Cobb & Sons, Dorset sold to 540gns with milk calves selling to 280gns for Steanbow Ltd, Shepton Mallet.
A day which was saw the majority of the catalogue being youngstock sold over £2000 thirty times and had buyers from across the breadth of the South West of England, Wales and as far north as Birmingham to create the following excellent averages:-
