What A Trade!
December 2024
Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report the trade of the year for a commercial dispersal at Sedgemoor Auction Centre. Selling your cows is never an easy decision and one that both Eric & Lucy Parker had put off for as long as they could. However, with retirement age looming, health issues, slurry investment required and their tenancy ending it was a decision that could no longer be delayed.
They say every cloud has a sliver lining and the years of breeding and dedication was rewarded with an electric trade from start to finish for this 7941kgs averaging herd. No less than 66 of the 102 milkers sold for in excess of £2000 with 26 of those over £2500. The joint top call of the day was £2677.50 x 2 for two second calvers that had calved in October and November both sired by Mr Farnear Helix Twitch ET. August and September second lactation cows sold for £2625 each. Third lactation September calvers to £2467.50 x 3, October 4th calvers £2415 x 2, Sep 5th calvers £2100. With dry cow due to her fifth calf in a months time also selling for £2467.50.
An great line up of calved heifers produced a storming trade topping at £2625 x 4, with a further 7 at £2572.50 and another 7 to £2520.
Last year’s autumn born calves sold to £1050 x 2 for daughters of Marcello and Nortonhill Sumeriam and this year’s heifer calves following their dams topped at £483 for a Stgen Miami Ikon ET daughter.
A great atmosphere in the ring with buyers from Staffordshire, Pembrokeshire & Cornwall combine with good local support created the following excellent averages.
