Rural surveyor joins Sedgemoor team
November 2024
Rural surveyor Abbie Lewis MRICS has just joined the professional, agricultural and farm agency department at Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s in the Sedgemoor office.
Abbie has worked in and around Somerset for the past six years. In her new role she will concentrate on a wide range of work to include Red Book valuations, estate management, property agency, tenancy matters, environmental schemes and any other rural professional matters.
She is a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) and has a degree in rural land management from the Royal Agricultural University.
“I was interested in a career in rural surveying as I wanted a professional career, but one that worked with rural assets and people,” Abbie explained.
Welcoming her appointment, Tom Mellor, Partner at GTH, said: I have no doubt that Abbie will prove to be a valuable addition to the team here at Sedgemoor. We have a forward thinking, dynamic team and this appointment will be a perfect fit.
‘We act for an abundance of different client types from Sedgemoor, ranging from advising landed estates encompassing thousands of acres to new farm entrants looking at grant funding for livestock equipment. Each day is different and a broad knowledge is needed to navigate the demands of our clients, which we are sure Abbie has the required skillset for.”
In her spare-time she is an active fellow of CAAV, Abbie is Convenor for the CAAV exams and also sits on its property management committee for Somerset Young Farmers.
Prior to joining GTH Abbie worked in the agricultural department of a Somerset firm and more recently for another firm in Somerset in their professional department, focusing on estate management.
“In my career to date I have particularly enjoyed working with clients to achieve their desired outcome and providing advice to maximise their assets whether that is to look at increasing income through environmental schemes, diversification or planning options but also with ongoing management with my background in estate management, “she said.
Away from work Abbie enjoys rural pursuits such as riding, attending local point to points and walking her dogs Labrador, Mabel and Marg, the Dachshund.
She is also a keen sportswoman and plays hockey for Bridgwater.
