
Shakira Shines at Spotlight Spectacle

The 10th Anniversary of the Spotlight Sale at Sedgemoor Market attracted buyers from all corners of the UK & Ireland. The catalogue included some top pedigrees across four different breeds of dairy cattle and resulted in 3 over £5000 and 12 over £3000.
David & Matt Jones, Monmouth Wales, consigned a granddaughter of one of the most famous cows in the world, Erbacres Snapples Shakira Ex97, who not only has her own show winning history and maximum classification but has arguably one of the best pedigrees in the world, with numerous well-known names like Snapple Red, Apple, Altitude and August all high scored Excellent cows in her pedigree. Spirited bidding both in the room and on Marteye saw her achieve 6200gns selling to the Dunn Family (Dunbanard) and the Mccormick Family (Hilltara) in Ireland.
Peter Waring travelled down from Yorkshire with Winton Chief Cutes, who was bred from the famous Cramar family and boasted 5 generations of dams all in excess of 94 points! She sold for 5400gns to Laurence Gay (Walkabout).
Also making a long journey was Jonny Lochhead and Jessica Miller who travelled down from Scotland with a red granddaughter of Cheers Ex95, American Show Cow, the dam of LH Kedar Three Cheers was maximum scored and completed a long line of Excellent and Very Goods. She sold for 5200gns to Andrew Patton (Ards).
At 4000gns was our top priced Jersey offering, consigned by the Treasure herd for D & L Millar, was the first choice of two calves to be born in October 2023 from Kevetta Chrome Violin who is proving to be a very promising young show cow who is also backed by one of the most famous Jersey Show Cows, Huronia Centurion Veronica Ex97.
Lot 1 kicked the sale off in the right way, a quality consignment from Arwyn Wilson, a freshly calved member of the Ghost family who had just been scored VG-2yr. She sold for 3600gns with her Robin Red heifer calf selling for 1000gns.
Incalf Heifers sold to 3600gns for Woodmarsh Unix Ruth again from Arwyn Wilson with a third heifer also selling for 3600gns from Ian & Max Davies, being the maiden Davlea Delta Lambda Alicia.
The top priced Swiss Kedar Martini Snick On The Beach, again travelled from Scotland with Jonny Lochhead from his famed Kedar herd and sold for 3200gns. The last of our four breeds entered, the dairy Shorthorn topped at 1500gns for Cotonhall Roulette Kirklevington.
