Firm expands with move to South Hams

May 2023

We are delighted to have opened our newest office in Ivybridge, Devon.

It is the first time GTH, one of the largest independent firms of rural surveyors, estate agents and auctioneers in the South West has had a base in Ivybridge.

The move will strengthen our network of 24 offices across Devon, Somerset, and Dorset. We opened a new office in Barnstaple only last year, building on a heritage that began 180 years ago.

Chairman Richard Webber, who heads up the South Molton office, said: “We are delighted to announce this very exciting new expansion for GTH. As a local farmer’s son, living and working in the area, James is the ideal rural professional to head it up.”

The focus at the Ivybridge branch will be firmly on the needs of the rural community. Appropriately the branch will be run by James Wotton, who is from a South Devon farming family. With a degree in Rural Land Management from the Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester, he began his career with GTH’s agricultural team at Sedgemoor Auction Centre as a graduate surveyor and now holds the position of Associate.

More recently he has worked from the Honiton office serving the requirements of clients in East and South Devon. The move to Ivybridge will mean he will be able to forge closer links with existing and new clients and offer a broader range of services. He has expertise in planning, rural grants, land and property sales, valuations and tenancy matters, as well as selling the calves, fodder and machinery at Sedgemoor Auction Centre.

A local team has been assembled to be permanently based from the new office alongside James at 8 Erme Court, Ivybridge. Rachel Mayo is from a longstanding farming family with a keen interest in agriculture and will be managing the office administration; whilst Lloyd Stone completes the team as an apprentice agricultural surveyor and is studying for his qualifications through Harper Adams University.

As well as working in Ivybridge, Lloyd will join the operation at Sedgemoor Auction Centre – the largest livestock market in the West Country, which we run at Junction 24, North Petherton, Somerset.

James Wotton said: “After eight years with the firm, I am delighted to be returning home to head up the new Ivybridge branch with the support of GTH and our new local team. The focus of agriculture and rural property results in myself, Lloyd and Rachel being well placed to offer clients an excellent level of service.

“The three of us are all Ivybridge born and bred, with our spare time spent working on commercial agricultural holdings, clients can therefore have confidence in local and practical advice. Being part of GTH, we are also able to call upon the firm’s experienced specialist departments that enables us to offer the full property package.”
