Mark Chugg celebrates a decade with GTH

January 2026

Greenslade Taylor Hunt Partner Mark Chugg reflects on 10 years with the firm as he marks a decade with the property partnership.

“Ten years ago, I left the corporate world of Savills to join Greenslade Taylor Hunt. I had spent eight years at the firm and had survived the 2007/08 recession and was jogging along.

In January 2016, I arrived at Hammet Street, Taunton, wondering if I had done the right thing (particularly when my inherited laptop refused to work) and with several cabinets of files and a number of long-term clients whom I continue to act for.

I am grateful to Graham Ford and the other Partners at the time for taking a leap of faith and the clients I had believing in me and coming along the journey too.

I went from an Associate Director to an Associate, but within three years I became a Partner and that meant so much to me personally. It also came at a time when all of my earlier work started to come to fruition.

I joined Graham Ford and two secretaries and by August 2016 we had moved offices to link up with our Architecture and Planning teams at Winchester House at Blackbrook.

This meant change but the team just went from strength to strength. From that moment, we grew our team and had to downsize our desks to create more room for all of our new colleagues.

Our office was nicknamed ‘the call centre,’ we introduced better case management and IT packages, and we managed to get through Covid too.

I became a Partner in January 2019 and a few years later so did Claire Alers-Hankey, who heads up the planning side of the department. Together we (Graham, Claire and I) have grown the Development Land & Planning team to where it is today.

The intention is to continue to grow and develop organically with the right people. Being good at your job is one thing, but team spirit is everything. Thank you to the team that we have. Here’s to the next 10 years at Greenslade Taylor Hunt.”
