Sedgemoor Auction Centre
Updated 4th March 2021
We have received a letter from Sedgemoor District Council dated 9th February advising that if compliance with correct mask wearing is not undertaken by those attending Sedgemoor they "will consider the issue of a Prohibition Notice". This is a very serious situation. It has been identified that "a significant number of attendees do not wear a face covering pulled up over their nose and mouth and some not at all". "There are markings on the floor to indicate where individuals should stand, on the whole these directions were ignored by the attendees who get together shoulder to shoulder with another, face covering pulled down and converse at length, turning their face toward one another frequently to do so". "Shared contact on the rails around the ring was frequent. Many would sanitise their hands at the front entrance to the venue but did not do so at all afterwards, having played around with their face covering regularly". "In accordance with Livestock Auctioneers Association guidance, Vendors are required to "drop and go". Our warden saw drops occur and sheep Vendors come into the sheds with their livestock and without wearing face coverings".
Please, if you want this market to remain open it is essential attendees follow our Covid rules.
Vendors must "Drop & Go" by unloading their stock on the loading bays, pass over their paperwork and then go home. Please ensure any lotting instructions are clearly identified on the entry form. Please ensure your mobile telephone number is on your entry form, so if you sell your stock with a reserve or subject to approval, we are able to contact you quickly. All sale results will be emailed at the close of the market. Please ensure your email is on your entry form.
Vendors must not stay in the market to see their stock sold, watch the trade, meet friends or for any other reason.
Only one Buyer per business may attend. No partners, children or others.
Buyers must wear a mask at all times and stand on the red dots to maintain a 1m gap at all times.
Buyers must sanitise on entry, re-sanitise through their stay and on departure.
Buyers where possible should "double up" and buy for multiple clients.
Any Buyer who does not actually secure a purchase must register with the market office after the sale.
Hauliers must ensure their name and contact details are recorded on the entry for the stock they are delivering. Hauliers must sanitise their hands before getting out of their lorry and must wear a mask when in the market.
Cull ewes & goats will be sold on Friday afternoons (from Friday 19th February) along with the store lambs to allow greater social distancing of Buyers at both the Friday and Saturday sales.
