The Brief

GTH’s Planning and Architectural teams were instructed to prepare and submit a full planning application for the reuse of a redundant traditional barn at North Farm, Pawlett. The proposals sought to create a new farm shop with café, alongside two holiday lets.

The Result

Before submitting the application, GTH engaged in pre-application discussions with Somerset Council to establish whether the principle of development was supported and to identify the key planning considerations.

Following a positive pre-application response, GTH coordinated the technical work required to support the submission, including appointing a topographical surveyor, ecologist and tree consultant.

The application received strong backing from the local community, with more than 150 letters of support submitted by existing customers. GTH worked closely with the Council to address concerns about the potential impact of the development on nearby trees, helping to secure the grant of planning permission.
